Chilli Pepper 'Basket of Fire' F1 looks as stunning as its name implies. It produces up to 200 chillies per plant and they mature in a rainbow of colours from dark purple, through to yellow, orange and finally red. 

Basket of Fire is a Capsicum annuum which is a species of the plant genus Capsicum native to southern North America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. This species is the most common and extensively cultivated of the five domesticated capsicums. The species encompasses a wide variety of shapes and sizes of peppers, both mild and hot, such as bell peppers, jalapeños, and cayenne peppers. Capsicum annuum is an evergreen Perennial growing to 1m by 1m at a medium rate. It is hardy to UK zone 9 and is frost tender. It is in leaf all year, in flower from July to September, and the seeds ripen from August to October. The species is hermaphrodite (which has both male and female organs).

Chilli Pepper 'Basket of Fire' F1 is a new UK bred chilli that's not only cold tolerant and crops well into the Autumn but can be grown very successfully in a hanging basket plant aswell as in containers. It has a semi-trailing habit and grows to 30cm tall with a spread of 60cm so the copious amounts of chillies hang down like jewels beneath the small chilli leaves.

The chillies have a medium-hot Scoville heat rating of 80,000 & can be used whilst young as well as left to mature and are perfect used either fresh or dried. Which Gardening Chilli Trials 2012 recommend Basket of Fire as a Best Buy commenting - 'We liked the prolific fruiting and the variety of colours on the plant.' So do we, makes lovely funky barbeque table decorations in summer. The first truly successful hanging basket chilli pepper that not only looks fantastic but is edible too!
